SNM Co-Sponsors Radiation Oncology And Cancer Imaging Symposium With American Society For Therapeutic Radiation And Oncology
"Collaborative forums, such as this meeting exploring intersections of molecular imaging and oncology, are critical to forward-moving our apprehension of the underlying causes of disease," said SNM President Robert W. Atcher, Ph.D., M.B.A., emerging medical technology team leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and UNM/LANL Professor of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico. "Continuing education and opportunities for colleagues to share research ar essential to advancing the practice of molecular imaging - and to helping patients and their charge givers gain the vital information they need in order to effectively treat disease as early as possible."
SNM's financial support of ASTRO's translational symposium is part of the society's broader initiative to partner with other organizations to bring the in style in molecular imaging inquiry to patients. In SNM's initial inter-societal collaboration, SNM and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) developed a joint seminar on optimizing clinical trials, which was presented at the ASCO Annual Meeting, held in early June in Chicago, Ill., as well as at the SNM Annual Meeting in New Orleans, La., a few weeks later.
"As organizations whose missions focus on advancing health care, we must work together to meet the continual challenges that patients face in order to bring breakthrough technologies and treatments to the patient," said Chaitanya Divgi, M.D., chief of nuclear medical specialty and prof of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania, world Health Organization co-organized this symposium. "Molecular imaging is an built-in step toward achieving the goal of personalized medicine, which promises to render specifically targeted treatments to individuals."
The ASTRO symposium, Translational Advances in Radiation Oncology and Cancer Imaging, will be held at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Va. and will bring medical professionals and scientists together to explore and plowshare research on the uses of molecular imaging in the detective work, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Additional supporters of this coming together include the Radiological Society of North America and Radiation Therapy Oncology Group.
Molecular imaging is an essential component for the early detection and diagnosis of many types of cancer, including ovarian, cervical, lung and prostate cancer. Using state-of-the-art equipment and on the dot targeted tracers, molecular imagery enables physicians to see how disease functions within the body.

About SNM - Advancing Molecular Imaging and Therapy
SNM is an international scientific and medical organization dedicated to rearing public awareness about what molecular imagination is and how it can aid provide patients with the best health care possible. SNM members specialize in molecular imaging, a vital element of today's medical practice that adds an additional dimension to diagnosis, changing the way common and annihilating diseases are understood and treated.
SNM's more than 17,000 members set the standard for molecular imaging and nuclear medicine practice by creating guidelines, sharing information through journals and meetings and leading advocacy on key issues that affect molecular imaging and therapy research and practice. Conor Oberst Almost Crushes Beer Can to Forehead at Show
During much of his sold-out Bowery Ballroom set last night, Conor Oberst treated the mike like an adversary, approaching it cautiously and standing near it only when necessary. Instead, he jammed with members of the five-piece Mystic Valley Band, named for an area in Tepoztln, Mexico, where they recorded Obersts newish, eponymous solo disc. But the boy remains a showman: The silver ring on his hand blurred as he attacked his guitar, which he at times held vertically, and even spun around like a dance partner. And the rollicking I Dont Want to Die (in the Hospital) drew him right out of his shell, as he shouted the lyrics, marched in place, stroked keyboardist Nate Walcott's face and pecked him on the cheek, and finally slammed his half-empty Miller Lite can on the floor, stomped on it, and proclaimed, I dont wanna die! Vanita Salisbury

Keiras mom slams media for anorexia rumours
Keira Knightleys screenwriter mother, Sharman MacDonald, has hit out at media rumours suggesting her daughter is suffering from anorexia comparing the press to playground bullies.
Knightley has long been dogged by rumours that her waif-like figure is the result of an eating disorder, but she has always denied this blaming her genes for her naturally svelte figure.
Last year, the 23-year-old successfully sued a British tabloid newspaper for publishing an article that accused her of being anorexic and setting a bad example to young girls.
And the stars mother MacDonald cant understand why the media is so obsessed with her daughters weight.
She tells British newspaper The Sunday Times, Shes always been thin. Shes her daddys daughter, with his long body.
Its a playground situation that were looking at with the press its a form of bullying but what can we do?
